From Cape Cod to your kitchen, tools made for seafood lovers.

The Story Behind Outer Cape Kitchen

Outer Cape Kitchen started with a simple goal: Create a better oyster knife.

Founded by two friends who met in high school, studied industrial design in college, and honed their craft designing professional-grade hand tools for the automotive and trade industries, we recognized the opportunity to reimagine the oyster knife. By focusing on safety, ergonomics, and versatility, we set out to create a tool that meets the needs of everyone, from home cooks to raw bar professionals.

Started in Wellfleet, MA, home of the world-famous Wellfleet Oyster, the Outer Cape has always inspired us. The rugged coastline, hardworking fishing community, and timeless charm of Cape Cod embody our values: resilience, authenticity, and a commitment to excellence. That spirit guides every product we create.

Today, we’re proud to craft tools that embody the connection between food, the sea, and the people who bring them together.

The Problem: A Tool That Didn’t Match the Task

Why Redesign the Oyster Knife?

Shucking is harder than it looks. It takes strength, technique, and patience. If you don’t have the right tool, you’re far more likely to crack a shell, waste the meat, or worse, cut your hand.

Growing up working on the oyster flats of Wellfleet Bay and behind the raw bar, we saw firsthand how special oysters are, filter feeders that clean the water and power a coastal ecosystem. We also saw how much work goes into getting oysters to your plate, and how little thought went into the tools used to open them.

We tried every knife we could find. Some looked great but didn’t hold up. Others worked well but lacked comfort. We couldn’t find the right balance, so we designed our own, shaped by feedback from shuckers and and coastal pros.

Tools Built for Seafood Lovers

Who Do We Make Tools For?

We design tools for people who love seafood, and the rituals, memories, and moments that come with it. That includes raw bar shuckers, chefs, seafood restaurants, shellfish farmers, and coastal home cooks who care about how things look and feel on the table.

If you’re plating oysters for a crowd or learning to shuck your first dozen, our tools are built to perform and last. We’ve tested them behind the raw bar, in the kitchen, and on a variety of oysters up and down both coasts to make sure they hold up wherever you use them.

Whether you live on the coast or carry the coast with you, we make tools that bring seafood to the center of the table. We believe they should feel right in hand—and look just as good doing it.

A Brand Built for the Coast

Why Start Outer Cape Kitchen?

We saw a problem. The tools available for seafood didn’t match the quality of the food, or the people who prepared it. With backgrounds in industrial design and years of real-world use behind the raw bar and on the farm, we knew we could build something better.

We believe tools should work hard, feel good, and last for years. They should be made with intention, shaped by hands-on experience, and grounded in the places that inspired them. Outer Cape Kitchen is our way of bringing that to life.

But more than that, this brand is about honoring the coast. The joy of eating oysters. The community of people who harvest, cook, and serve them. And the responsibility we have to protect the waters that make it all possible.

OCK | COMMUNITY + COAST

How We Give Back

We started Outer Cape Kitchen to make better tools, but also to give back to the coast that raised us. Supporting local waters and working waterfronts is built into our brand.

That’s why we donate 1% of annual sales to the Wellfleet Oyster Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting clean water, supporting shellfishing families, and preserving the future of the shellfish industry.

As we grow, so does our impact. Whether it’s through better products or deeper partnerships, we’re here to help coastal communities and clean waters thrive.
